DESCRIPTION:Join Capitol Land Trust for Second Saturdays at Bayshore Preserve as we explore the marine landscape and shoreline habitats of Oakland Bay. This guided outing focuses on the salt marsh and coastal ecosystems that shape Bayshore Preserve. Along the way\, we'll look at the restoration work that has taken place at the preserve and head down toward Oakland Bay during low tide to observe the plants\, animals\, and habitats revealed when the water recedes. Whether you're curious about coastal ecology or simply interested in experiencing the shoreline in a new way\, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the natural systems that make this place unique while spending time outdoors with community. Meet at the kiosk No parking pass or RSVP required What to Expect - Learn about the salt marsh and marine ecosystems of Oakland Bay - A slow-paced walk on mostly flat trails made up of compact gravel and dirt - Opportunities to observe shoreline habitats during low tide - Learn about restoration efforts at Bayshore Preserve - An ADA-compliant portable toilet available near the kiosk - Limited shade in some areas of the preserve What to Bring - Sturdy walking shoes - A water bottle - Sun protection such as a hat\, sunglasses\, and sunscreen A Note About Parking Overflow parking will be open for event participants at 9:30 am. Please allow a few extra minutes to park and walk to the kiosk so the group can begin together at 10:00 am. About Second Saturdays Second Saturdays is a free monthly event series held at Bayshore Preserve from April November. Each month focuses on a different nature topic and offers a welcoming way for people of all ages to learn\, explore\, and connect with the outdoors and with community.
